Serving the people of Berkhamsted

Sustainable Clothes Swaps

Did you know, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions?

This means the clothes that we buy are contributing to climate change more than air and sea travel combined.

Textile production is also the world's second largest industrial polluter after oil.

People in the UK buy more clothes than any other country in Europe, with 'fast fashion' meaning that over half of items bought are thrown away within a year!

Come along to the Sustainable Clothes Swaps on 25 and 26 March at The Forum in Hemel Hempstead.

To help combat these environmental issues, de-clutter your wardrobes and give you a fresh new look for free - we are hosting three Sustainable Clothes Swaps.

Clothes swaps allows people to exchange their unwanted items for something different. They are a great, easy way to update your wardrobe. It's guilt-free shopping with no cost to you or the environment.

How does it work?

Taking part is simple!

Just bring along your good-quality items you no longer wear and exchange them for something new to you.

During the drop off time bring along a maximum of 10 unwanted, good-quality clothes (adult sizes only) and earn one token per item.

During the swap time exchange your tokens for items which are new to you.

Swap rules

A maximum of 10 items per person in adult sizes only.

Items accepted: good-quality adult size clothes.

Items not accepted: bad-quality items (dirty, ripped, torn, stained, broken zips and so on) shoes, bags, jewellery, underwear, nightwear, swimwear or babies and children's clothes.

This event is for good-quality, unwanted clothing only, if you have any unwearable clothing, this can either be repaired, or recycled in a textile bank.

Bring your own reusable bags to take items home - carrier bags will not be provided.

You can drop off your items at one event, and use your credit at another event.

On Saturday 26 March all credit will be worth double, subject to availability - for example, if you bring 10 items you can take home 20 items.

All credit from these swaps will expire at 2pm on Saturday 26 March and cannot be used at swaps later in the year/next year.

Any items remaining by the end of Saturday at 2pm will either be donated to charity or saved for another swap.
