Serving the people of Berkhamsted

Conservation Areas

Much of Berkhamsted town centre and adjoining streets are in the Conservation Area around High Street, The Grand Union Canal and Charles Street.

For more information about the Conservation Area view the Dacorum Borough Council website

Planning legislation makes it clear that local authorities should give "special attention" to Conservation Areas and their enhancement. One of the main purposes of designating a conservation area is to ensure that development proposals preserve and enhance the character of the area.

Therefore the advice of Planning Officers at Dacorum Borough Council must be sought and approval given before any such works are carried out.

For more information about Planning permission in the Conservation Area please visit the Dacorum Borough Council website
