INVITATION FROM BERKHAMSTED TOWN COUNCIL TO A PUBLIC MEETING 22 NOVEMBER 2017 AT 7.30pm

CIVIC CENTRE, 161, HIGH STREET, BERKHAMSTED

TO DISCUSS DACORUM BOROUGH COUNCIL'S "LOCAL PLAN – ISSUES AND OPTIONS CONSULTATION TO 2036" AND THE IMPACT ON BERKHAMSTED More »

At the meeting, a short presentation summarising DBC's proposals will be made followed by an opportunity to discuss your views with councillors. This will help the Town Council formulate its response to the consultation which it has already been reviewing with a working group, made up of councillors, local residents and community groups (BRAG and Berkhamsted Citizens).

The two key aspects are the number of new homes to be provided and development on some Green Belt sites. As DBC have said in the forward to the consultation document "..some difficult decisions will need to be made." The consultation papers are available on line at www.dacorum.gov.uk/planningpolicy, at Dacorum Council offices and in libraries. People can reply on-line, by e-mail or by post. The Town Council thinks it is crucial that as many individuals, groups and organisations as possible respond to the consultation.

Other dates to note:

The consultation itself runs from 1 November to 13 December 2017;

Dacorum Borough Council has advertised a number of "Give us your views" sessions in the Gazette on 1 November. The session for Berkhamsted is on Friday 17 November 2017 at the Civic Centre, 161 High Street, Berkhamsted (opposite Tesco) from 2 pm – 9 pm. Please drop in to have a look at the proposals and discuss any issues with DBC staff. » Less

Fri, 10 Nov 2017 11:07 by Town Warden

Sunday 26 November 2017 is the date for this year's Festival of Light in Berkhamsted town centre. Come along and join in the fun and festivities which start at 3.30 pm.

There will be stalls lining the High Street selling festive fair, crafts, gifts, mulled wine and mince pies together with activities, games and raffles. In the Civic Centre Mrs Claus will be looking after the Elves' Posting House where children can write, crayon or design a special message to Santa. Entry to the Posting House is £2 per child. More »

The award winning Lockers Park Choir and The Choir on the Green will entertain the crowds and at 4.30 pm we are particularly privileged to be joined by members of The London Community Gospel Choir who will perform on stage at 4.30 pm. Many thanks to The "Faith Works" Trust, based in Whelpley Hill, who have most generously sponsored the Gospel Choir's attendance.

At 5 pm the "Best Dressed Shop Window" winner will be announced followed by the Town blessing by Rev Canon Timothy Pilkington and the switching on of the lights by the Mayor of Berkhamsted. Santa will then arrive on his sleigh with events drawing to a close at 6 pm.

This fantastic family event takes place with the help of many dedicated voluntary organisations. The Town Council's thanks go to Community Action Dacorum, The Berkhamsted Chamber of Commerce, Berkhamsted Citizens, The Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne and The Lions Club of Berkhamsted. All funds raised at Mrs Claus' Posting House will go towards the Berkhamsted Lions' charities which support many local community initiatives throughout the year. A special thank you to Berkhamsted Litter Pickers who do sterling work tidying up the High Street after the event.

Support is also provided by Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Tesco who provide refreshments for the many volunteers on the day. London Midland also provide free parking in the station car park. The Town Council would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who contributes to the event making it the success it is.
